A New Phase in Building Bangladesh 2.0

A New Phase in Building Bangladesh 2.0 | Political Shifts & Public Opinion

With Bangladesh Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus’ announcement of the July Declaration and February elections, and the passing of the one-year mark of the Interim Government being in power, there has been a noticeable shift in the dynamic in Bangladesh. Some people are looking with hope and anticipation to a future where there is an elected government, and others with wariness.

A recent Pulse Survey was published by BRAC University which found that slightly more people believe that the country is on the right track than on the wrong track, and that 63% of the population feel the Interim Government is doing a good job.

Recently, there have been some thoughtful articles about what has been accomplished in the last year. Two of the best have been “What Bangladesh has achieved in the one year since its revolution” by M. Osman Siddique and Jon Danilowicz, published by the Atlantic Council, and “The Bangladesh Revolution One Year Later, and Why It Matters to the U.S.” by Dr. Scott Leckman in the Deseret News.

The first in a series of posts about Bangladesh’s most significant contributions to the global community was published recently focused on the nation’s disproportionate share of U.N. Peacekeepers. We also released the second in a series centered on “good news” from Bangladesh, since positive stories too often get drowned out by actual and fake “bad news.”

As we have noted, the number of fake and distorted stories about Bangladesh has been increasing, perhaps in tune with the one-year anniversary of the uprising. Fortunately, the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing and Rumor Scanner Bangladesh/Shohanur Rahman have been doing an excellent job debunking phony stories. We owe them our thanks.

Finally, Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser just wrapped up a productive visit to Malaysia, where five Memoranda of Understanding between the two countries were signed.
